Cape Cod to Hamptons to Miami Beach - Flood Resistant Swimming Pool Structures

Aquatic consultant and watershape designer Paolo Benedetti discusses the importance of engineering flood resistant structures when building oceanfront swimming pools.

Pool or House ?

You have decided to place your swimming pool on the waterfront to take advantage of the gorgeous views.  Your house will look over the pool and onto the water beyond.  A house is the most expensive investment most people will ever make.

So, doesn't is make sense to design that swimming pool to protect your property from storm surges and tidal action?

For a relatively minor additional investment (compared to major storm damage), a swimming pool can be engineered to actually assist in buffering your property from tidal action.

Foundations

Waterfront swimming pools already require complex foundations of driven piles.  So why not spend a few thousand dollars more and design it so that is functions as your seawall as well?

The heavy equipment and personnel are going to be on your site anyway, so why not invest in a more substantial structure to protect your property?

If the pool sustains damage from a storm and saves your house, can you live without a pool while it undergoes repairs?

But, can you live without a house?
